Something, where I wouldn’t have to witness my mistakes, mount up in direct proportion to my level of sanity. It is something that can’t be completed during a lunch break and has leveling dings and increasing stats. I was confused when the lengthy Xuan-Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond the Mountains Full version appeared in my inbox.
This is due to two factors. The first is the most straightforward: the translation is not very good. Still, it’s not the worst I’ve seen. However, it’s enough for every character to begin sounding a little strange and artificial, which is bad for character development. It’s also likely the reason Septem comes across as a jerk and why it’s so hard to understand why everyone falls in love with him right away. There is a problem with exposition in the writing as well. Characters will frequently hurl descriptions of the state of the world at you as if they have committed the opening line of the Wikipedia article to memory.

Even so, perhaps we’ll be able to concentrate more on the fighting. With an “Active Time Battle” component, it’s turn-based and your characters can only attack when their agility bar is full. It functions fairly well and did bring back some nostalgic memories of the past for me. Playing a turn-based game that hasn’t been altered is pleasant. This is the reason Xuan-Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond the Mountains initially made me very happy. However, as I progressed, the fighting, the mazes, and the writing got to me. And there are the strange re-release segments. At certain points, the audio seems unduly compressed, and the cutscenes—those without late-1990s 3D, at least—appear to be playing at 240p. Ultimately, my positive feelings toward it seemed to evaporate, leaving me feeling a little depressed. This is not the RPG I was hoping for. not in this manner.
